I take back everything I said about being confident. I have no idea what I am doing. Not having fun. I'm stressing about the dress and thinking this fancy party attire racket is not for me. It is pouring rain today, and I am taking the dress to work so that Stylish Young Coworker can properly advise me on shoes. She wants to know if the dress is white or winter white. How the hell would I know?
Probably shouldn't go anywhere beer is served in a glass.
The dress is fabulous and you have support staff for this project, which is something most of us only dream of. (Is SYC available for rent?) Do not be persuaded to buy painful shoes and everything else will take care of itself. You looked cute as all get-out wearing the dress in your bare feet, so you don't have that much left to do.

Donna, no need to be stressed!
You jump that hurdle with a little help from your friend.
The dress is so beautiful, I'm sure it's easy to get a color matching kittenheel which is comfortable to wear.
Just relax, take it easy.

I agree with Michelle; once the shoe choice is decided, you'll feel better. It would be a real shame not to see a photo of you in your party best! And a word on pre-event anxiety: around Christmas, I almost passed up a chance to see Cirque du Soleil (for free) because I felt anxious about going. But I went, had a great time, and resolved to push myself to do things I felt anxious about. Bonus: Cirque du Soleil is clown-free. The same may not be true for your swanky event, but we -- and you -- won't know unless you go!

I have the same problem with returning things. You are so lucky to have good advice from your SYC and fellow bloggers. Take a deep breath, select your shoes and go to the party and have a good time. I predict that you will get many compliments on your dress and your beautiful silver hair!

Donna,
Don't worry. Most likely, others are too busy worrying about what they will look like to have enough energy to worry what anyone else is wearing. You're probably smarter than most of them and will be able to carry on a coherent conversation...that's worth much more in social currency.
By the way, winter white is a creamy, softer version of white. Think of a man's crisp white shirt versus a creamy off-white cashmere sweater.

Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement. I am not as stressed as I was. I found out there will be a band playing Texas swing music, which I love, so how bad can it be? I still haven't decided on shoes! The party is Saturday. There's still time ...

SYC coworker here. Donna got my seal of approval on Monday. The dress is even more sylish and becoming in person.

Houston, we have shoes! I'm actually going to wear shoes I already had in an unexpected way. I bought new earrings. Love it and feel confident again. Will post pictures Saturday or Sunday.
